In what way was his view like Randall Munroe's? I've seen probably almost all his comics and maybe some other of his works, and I know he's scientifically literate and creative, but I don't know his overall approach to science or what makes his view unique.

My view on science is that it's an extremely useful tool and has revealed tons of things about the world / universe we live in, but it shouldn't be overextended into thinking that everything is necessarily mechanistic, that anything spiritual or paranormal is necessarily bunk, etc. People should learn to separate science from scientism.

For example, there is nothing in the laws of physics that dictates that astrology is impossible (i.e. that its ideas are necessarily invalid), that's more a part of the "air" of science that comes with separating everything by default and trying to understand all phenomena in existence through a very limited set of scientific axioms--as if our current scientific understanding of the universe is comprehensive-- and with a lack of imagination to realize how such things *could* be possible and a lack of intellectual refinement to see how such things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive it what we actually know and what has been proven in science.

Just like religion is spirituality for the masses, so-called skepticism is rationality for the masses. (The true meaning of skepticism, as applying discernment and reason, is fine..but the kind of mentality usually espoused by so-called skeptics is one of flat out denial and dismissal of anything amazing, extraordinary or paradigm-changing.)

There seems to be three main classes of people:

1. the scientistic/atheists/skeptics who believe everything is material and want to understand/assimilate everything in the universe through the lens of a very limited, analytical and mechanistic set of principles. the most angering thing is that their ideology eliminates from reality anything real, anything heart-based or of real substance. they don't really believe in life itself, let alone magic (including the kind you feel, not even necessarily talking about physical miracles)
2. the new agers and spiritualists who are so open-minded that they figuratively let their brains fall out, lacking the wherewithall or reason to discern what's truly outlandish and improbable.. they tend to be the same group who believe in ridiculous conspiracy theories, government satellites controlling their minds, etc. they tend to believe things that are true that the atheist types don't, which is refreshing, but also tend to believe in a lot stuff that's complete bullsh*t. also, they tend to know virtually no science whatsoever.
3. religious people who are brainwashed from birth and will never change their mind, they have a kind of children's-tale or comic-book and black and white idea of the universe and spirituality, a simplistic, vulgar and out-dated morality, etc. not to mention that they don't even really know what their own holy books say or their histories, including the more absurd stuff that no rational person in today's would agree with, and let alone all the contradictions.. yet they believe that they believe every word of their bible 100%. but really they just believe whatever interpretation of the religion is popular at the time, some of which has no basis in the books at all.

It's kind of sad not to have any group in society that you can really relate to or respect.. I mean maybe there are some *small* groups, and if not that then a few individuals who really have a well-balanced view of things, but it still feels kinda lonely living in a society where 99% of people are living under delusional paradigms. Mainly you can choose to associate with or sympathize with either the fire or the frying pan.
